Jimmy Teens Charity
One of The charities we are raising money for is called Jimmy Teens TV. It is founded by children for fellow children with cancer.
"Jimmy's" is what many people affectionately call the St James Children's Hospital
The idea of the charity is to give a video camera to children who are undergoing chemotherapy and other related treatments, so they can either film themselves or have their relatives film them during the treatment and track how how they feel together with the impact of the various side effects affect them such as how they look when they lose hair. The video is then posted it on the jimmyteens.tv website so other recently diagnosed children and their families can see it to help them prepare for the times ahead.
These videos have been found to greatly assist reduce apprehension, help to cope with the shock of the diagnosis and deal with the fear of the unknown as they start the treatment.
Above all, it helps children and their nearest and dearest to realise that there is a life after the Ds. And as you can imagine mental attitude and approach, not just with the children themselves but those around them, are the most crucial factors in dealing with Ca, especially in young age.
In addition, being filmed during treatment provides a welcome distraction for the children from the effects of chemotherapy, knowing that they are also helping other similarly affected children in the process. We thank you for your support.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
